Czechactor-turned-directorJiříMádlhaswrappedshootingonhisthirdfictionfeature,Waves,whichcentresontheturbulentperiodoftheWarsawPactinvasion,aseminalmomentinmodernCzechoslovakhistory.Theperioddramaisinspiredbyreal-lifecorrespondentsfromtheCzechoslovakRadioInternationalBureauduringthelate1960s.Thefilm,setagainstthetumultuousbackdropofthePragueSpringandthe1968invasion,tellsthestoryoftwobrothersnavigatingthechallengesoftheperiod.TheprotagonistsareTomášandhisyoungersibling,whofindthemselvesinthemidstofthe1968MayDayParadeoutsidetheCzechRadiobuilding,wherethefilmcrewhasbeenshootingsomescenes.Theforeignradiodepartmentwasknownforindependentnewsreportingdespitetheprevalentcensorship.However,theblossomingofthecommunistregimewillsoonbeabruptlyhaltedbytheWarsawPacttanks.
