BecomingconcernedovertheShadows'growinginfluenceamongsthispeople,CentauriambassadorLondoMollariattemptstosevertieswiththem.Mr.Morden,theShadows'humanrepresentative,trickshimintorestoringthepartnershipbyengineeringthemurderofMollari'smistresswhileputtingtheblameonarivalCentauriHouse.OpenwarfarebreaksoutbetweentheShadowsandtheallianceledbyBabylon5andtheMinbari.ItislearnedthatgeneticmanipulationbytheVorlonsisthesourceofhumantelepathy,asitislaterdiscoveredthatShadowshipsarevulnerabletotelepathicattacks.DispleasedattheVorlons'lackofdirectactionagainsttheShadows,CaptainJohnSheridanbrowbeatsVorlonambassadorKoshNaranekintolaunchinganattackagainsttheirmutualenemy.Kosh'sdeedsleadtohissubsequentassassinationbytheShadows.
