Fluentintenlanguagesincludingtwodeadones,JulieWalters,consideredthebrightestmindintheDepartment,isjustmonthsawayfromobtainingaPh.D.inAncientLanguages,afterwhichshehopestogetajobattheMuseumofNaturalHistory,whereshe'swantedtoworksinceshewasachild.HerpathhitsaroadblockwhensheisinformedthatallfundinghasbeenpulledfromtheDepartmentforstudentservices,includingemploymentandfinancing,hersolesourcesofeducationfunding.Withnomuseumjobstobehadwhichwouldbeherfirstchoiceasareplacement,Juliedecidestoofferprivatelanguagelessonsinstead.Herfirststudents,seniorscoupleRoseandEarlWilliams,decidetobuyFrenchlessonsfortheirsonDan,whoisinalongdistancerelationshipwithaParisienne,Cosette,theysolelycommunicatingintheircommonlanguageofEnglish.Uponfirstsight,Juliediscovershernewstudentisoneoftheassistantcuratorsatthemuseumwithwhoshehadearlierhadasomewhatawkwarddiscussionregardingshepotentiallyworkingthere.BusyDan,reluctanttoenterintothelessons,ismorepracticalthanromanticinhisrelationships,hedealingwithCosettesolelyinthoseareascommontothetwoofthem,namelyinEnglishandaroundmuseums,shewhoworksatoneinParis,whichishowtheyoriginallymet.Inbelievingonelearnsbetterifitappliestothem,JulieendsupalsocoachingDaninhowtobemoreromanticinhowitwouldapplytoCosette,heeventuallydiscoveringthatshewouldlikehimtoexhibitthatsideofhimselftoher.AsJuliestartstofallforDan,anditseemsheforher,theirpathforwardmayhitthefurtherroadblocksofCosette,andofhergoalofworkingatthemuseum.—Huggo
